Our top 10 tips on getting your car ready for interstate transport.

Whether you're taking advantage of our interstate car transport services or using another carrier these tips will help you prepare your vehicle for transport.

#1 Check Ground Clearance

Make sure that your car has a ground clearance of no less than 150mm at any point. If your car is lower than this it usually requires special equipment and/or handling and the pricing may need to be adjusted to reflect this.

#2 Don't be Alarmed

Disable your car alarm. Apart from saving your battery from dying, you don't want to drive your carrier bonkers either. There's nothing more frustrating and attention grabbing than a car alarm that is going off every few minutes.

#3 Clear Out

Remove all personal effects and non-standard items from inside your vehicle. Rear-mounted spare wheels and fitted child car seats are accepted by most carriers. Everything else should be removed.

#4 Squeaky Clean

Clean your car from top to bottom. Inside and out. This will help you and the car carrier to clearly identify any pre-existing damage in the condition report. If your vehicle is travelling into Western Australia it may be refused by WAQIS (Western Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service) until it has been thoroughly cleaned at your expense. There cannont be any bugs, dirt/mud, plant or other organic material on any part of your vehicle.

#5 Fuel

It's best to keep 1/4 to 1/3 of a tank of petrol in your car. If it's too full you'll be adding unnecessary weight to the car carrier. Too little and it may not be able to drive the short distances required at depots and transfer points.

#6 Sound Advice

Retract or remove arials and external antennas to prevent them from snapping off.

#7 Check for Leaks

The carrier may refuse to transport your vehicle if there are signs of leaks.

#8 Got Issues?

Make sure that you top-up all fluids and that your car is in good working order. Let your carrier know about any operational issues with your vehicle. They may need special equipment or handling to cater for them and this may effect your price.

#9 Open for Inspection

Hand over a set of ALL keys that are needed to access any lockable part of the vehicle. To ensure that your vehicle doesn't contain anything it shouldn't, you car is likely to be inspected by your carrier and potentially by quarantine and other law enforcement authorities.

#10 Electronic Toll Tags

Remove or Deactivate toll tags. You don't want to run up your bills!
